Charles Barkley Donated $1,000 To Every Employee In His Hometown School District
The former NBA player has donated millions of dollars to graduates in his hometown of Leeds, Alabama.

Charles Barkley solidified his status as a hometown hero after giving back to his high school alma mater.
The former NBA player donated $1,000 to each of the employees of Leeds City Schools in Alabama, according to the district’s Facebook page.
“Through the years, the Leeds School System has been fortunate to have the support of its biggest fan and most famous graduate, Charles Barkley, Class of 1981,” the school district wrote in a post. “Over the past three decades, Charles has quietly and without any attention drawn to himself, provided over $3million in scholarships to Leeds graduates, funds that have helped hundreds of students attend college.”
Alabama A&M closing its Confucius Institute because of federal funding ban

Alabama A&M University’s executive committee has voted to close the Confucius Institute at the university after notification from the federal government that it could lose eligibility for some federal funds.
The executive committee made the decision Saturday. Congressman Mo Brooks of Huntsville, a critic of Confucius Institutes because of their connections to the Chinese government, applauded the decision and urged Troy University, which also has a Confucius Institute, to do the same. Troy University said no decision has been made.
An April 6 letter from the Under Secretary of Defense to Alabama A&M President Andrew Hugine Jr., said the Defense Department would not provide grants, contracts, or other funds to universities hosting Confucius Institutes, which are based in China. Congress put the funding prohibition in the defense authorization act for 2021.

Mike Phillips has been named director of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the primary outreach organization for Alabama A&M and Auburn universities, both of which are land-grant institutions with the mission of providing real-life solutions and helping improve the lives of all Alabamians.
Phillips will begin his new role March 1 with the joint system referenced generally as Alabama Extension which was created in 1995 when the universities’ Extension programs were combined.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - A newly awarded grant from Alabama Power will help the campus of Alabama A&M University expand its technological capabilities in the near future.
Alabama A&M University announced Monday the $500,000 grant received from Alabama Power.
The gift is part of Southern Company and its subsidiaries’ $50 million HBCU Initiative, a multiyear funding strategy announced in January 2020 that provides HBCU students with scholarships, internships, leadership development and access to technology and innovation to support career readiness.
