Power outages. Alex savidge is in San Francisco now. Tell us more about the Power Outages. Reporter well, last nights light show fun to watch. Now a lot of people waking up in the dark across the bay area because of the storms. At last check, about 1800 homes and businesses without power. A lot of them right here in San Francisco where we are this morning. Were out in the sunset district. And you can see this particular outage is here near the intersection of 35th avenue. And crews have been out here since last night, working hard to get the power back on for this neighborhood after lightning took down one of the power lines on the street at about 9 30 or so last night. People in this neighborhood, they pulled out the flashlights this morning to get ready for work or for school with no lights. All of these outages, various outages across the bay area were caused by last nights thunderstorms. You see that lightning lit up the San Francisco skyline and lightning reported all over the bay

The first thing i do want to get out, though is after all the pictures and the video have been coming in for mondays event, which was certainly unprecedented here across the bay area, we are not looking at an event that would be as strong for tomorrow morning. I wanted to get that out of the way. Its all coming from this storm system offshore. As this moves in well see the chance pick up. Nothing developing off towards the south, but forecast modeling continues to show the possibility of a little bit of activity around 2 30 in the morning near morgan hill. I do think well see something. The big question for tomorrow is how close will these storms get . It really looks like a southern bay area event. Slight chances in san jose. Better chance in morgan hill and gilroy right around 5 00 in the morning. Here you can see at 7 00 in the morning, most of it again stays well to the south and over the senate cr santa cruz mountains. 4 00 to 9 00 a. M. Best chance to get thunderstorms.
Very tight community here. Everybody knows each other really well so staff is devastated. Ive seen tears from the staff and from the students. Reporter so we come back out here live. We do not know if these cameras captured in tragic crash but that would become part of the investigation as police work to determine what led up to a crash that has severely injured a teachers aide and we were just told she worked with special education students so unclear how fast this female student had been going but preliminary indications are that she may have confused the gas and brake pedals. Injunction, ruling the governments plans to with hold federal funds from sanctuary cities is likely unconstitutional. That ruling came down this afternoon in response to legal challenges from San Francisco and santa clara counties. Am per lee has reaction tonight from the two jurisdictions that led that legal challenge. Amber . Were a nation of immigrants, and we have been since our country was founded. Reporter San Francisco joins Santa Clara County in the legal challenge against President Trumps executive order. The injunction will encompass all socalled sanctuary cities nationwide. This is why we have courts, to halt the overreach of a president and attorney general who either dont understand the constitution, or choose to ignore it. Traffic starting to build as you can see theres a little bit of red there. Folks are waking up and getting out of the house and heres a live look at 680 in walnut creek where traffic is moving but going a little slow this morning. Jess. From the live desk, we are tracking a horrific crash in the south bay. I want to show you video just coming in to the abc7 newsroom from san jose. Shows the scene of the accident on mcdaniel avenue. A car plowed into a couple trees and from this angle, you cant even tell it used to be a car. Incredibly, the driver walked away with only minor injuries. Officers say they actually found him sitting on the curb talking to people. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Police right now are talking to the driver to find out the cause of the crash and determine if alcohol was a factor. The bay area bracing for whats expected to be a weekend of protests.
