SaskTel providing tips to avoid being scammed online SHARE ON: SaskTel is trying to help people avoid being scammed online. [Pixabay] With March being Fraud Prevention Month, SaskTel is dropping some tips for web-surfers to protect themselves online and not fall victim to cyber-scamming. While the internet has been especially used for connection this year, CEO and President Doug Burnett says its also been a year that scammers have been evolving the execution of their scams. Due to this, Burnett notes its important to take proactive steps. These include using strong, unique passwords of every website a user goes to, not sharing personal or sensitive info on social media, and knowing businesses will not ask for sensitive information via email or message.

SaskTel reminds customers to protect themselves from cyber scams by using digital self-defense

“Cyber scams look very real and anyone can be victimized. Your identity information belongs to you, and you are responsible for it. If you are asked to share your identity information, ensure you have a full understanding of what it is going to be used for, how long it will be retained, and if it will be further disseminated,” said Inspector Andrew Farquhar, Officer-in-Charge of Federal Operations for the Saskatchewan RCMP. “Cyber scams see no borders. We encourage anyone who may have fallen victim to a cyber scam to report these to us immediately because it may assist police in advancing our investigations and help us identify additional victims in Saskatchewan or across Canada.”
