Five inmates died while trying to escape from prisons in Kaduna and Imo states. by SaharaReporters, New York Dec 27, 2020 More than 2,058 prisoners escaped from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) facilities in 2020 following jail breaks in Delta, Edo and Ondo states.  Five inmates died while trying to escape from prisons in Kaduna and Imo states, according to a Daily Trust report.  The most recent jailbreak was the escape of 1,993 prisoners from two correctional facilities in Edo State, on October 19, 2020, which the Comptroller of the facility, Andrew Egbobawaye, confirmed shortly after the jailbreaks. Taking advantage of the #EndSARS protest, hoodlums using local tools and weapons, broke into the prisons and freed inmates.

Breaking News | Crime 38 inmates escape from police custody in Enugu

Views: Visits 85 38 inmates remanded in the custody of the Enugu State Police Command for various offences have reportedly escaped from custody on Monday. Police sources said the inmates numbering between 38 and 40 escaped from the police cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department, inside the State Police Headquarters on Sunday night, Punch is reporting. The inmates were remanded by Magistrate Courts at the police cells during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. It was learnt that the offenders were kept in the police custody because of the congestion of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Enugu. There has been a spate of jail breaks across the country in recent times.
