EL CAJON    A pro-Israel rally featuring former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder drew about 200 protesters to El Cajon Sunday, some of whom clashed with local extremists just one block east of where the duo spoke. While speeches and musical acts entertained about 500 people gathered to hear the two conservative figures at the “We Are Israel” rally at El Cajon’s Prescott Promenade, self-described members of antifa exchanged punches with men and women associated with different East County “defender” groups that organized in response to 2020’s Black Lives Matter protests. Men and women from each side threw punches at one another ahead of the main body of the protest march. A man wearing black who appeared to be with the antifa demonstrators emerged from the crowd and sprayed pepper spray at the people fighting.
