Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s fixture against West Brom on Sunday, manager Jürgen Klopp spent time discussing the Mohamed Salah’s influence on his Liverpool side.
The Egyptian’s late goal against Manchester United on Thursday brought him level with Harry Kane in the Golden Boot battle, with Salah bringing his tally in all comps up to 30.
Salah made his 200th appearance for the Reds, bringing his career tally in a red shirt up to 124 goals level with Robbie Fowler and one ahead of Ian Rush.

This was not an easy game to watch. The non-stop narrative over the past 24 hours has been focused on the Super League gamble that John Henry and Fenway Sports Group took, using the club that we all love in a game of chicken with UEFA rather than on the juicy match up with the always fun Leeds. A game that could have major implications for a Champions League spot next season felt hollow and fairly pointless for me and many other “legacy fans”. Despite the obvious distractions, Jürgen Klopp somehow had his side focused as they stepped onto the field, and the Reds looked lively from the off. The game ended up following a familiar pattern, however. Liverpool create lots of chances, but struggle to finish. They did manage to find a goal, but it was wiped out after conceding a late set piece goal in a second half dominated by Leeds.

Speaking in the aftermath of the Reds’ progression to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, Gini Wijnaldum acknowledged what fans already knew: a win not only just progression in the competition was something the team really needed.
While the Dutchman, who was captain in Budapest on Wednesday, was pleased with the performance and result, he also adds a note of caution. ”It helps to get confidence back when you have results, and especially when you play a good game, which we did today.
