Koper – The University of Primorska will host the 8th European Congress of Mathematics (8ECM), one of the major events in the field, in the coastal town of Portorož between 20 and 26 June. The congress will be held mostly online due to the epidemiological situation, said the university.
This year’s event will host top experts in the field, including the winners of the Fields Medal or so-called Nobel Prize of Mathematics. Martin Hairer (Imperial College, London), Stanislav Smirnov (University of Geneva) and Andrei Okounkov (Higher School of Economics, National Research University, Moscow) will be among the guests.
Host the event is a great honour to Slovenian mathematicians as well as an opportunity for showcasing their achievements and boosting student interest in maths, the university said.
