An Anoka police K9 was shot and an armed carjacking suspect is dead after a police chase that stretched 40 miles Sunday afternoon ended in gunfire in Isanti County.
A second suspect who was not injured was arrested, according to Blaine Police Chief Brian Podany.
A police officer was hospitalized with minor injuries. Anoka police said a K-9 named Bravo was shot and taken to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Center, where the police dog was said to be resting comfortably Monday.
Police said they responded to a call involving a possible theft at the Kohl s department store in Blaine just before 1 p.m. The two suspects had a stolen vehicle, and fled, then carjacked another vehicle at gunpoint nearby, leading police on a 40-mile high-speed chase through Anoka and Isanti counties, police said.

A suspect has been killed in an incident involving police in Isanti County Sunday afternoon.
Details of the incident are still emerging, but the early reports state that police were chasing two carjacking suspects on Hwy. 65 near Braham.
Police say police had been called to a report of a theft in Blaine just before 1 p.m., with the suspects fleeing the scene in a vehicle, before allegedly carjacking another.
Their vehicle became disabled on Hwy. 65 and the pair fled on foot, with one of them fatally shot in the ensuing altercation. A K-9 officer from Anoka was also shot, while a Blaine police officer suffered minor injuries from the initial theft call. It s not clear yet how serious the K-9 s injuries are.
