Indiana ended federal pandemic benefits early
Earlier this year, Indiana become one of dozens of states to end the federal pandemic unemployment program early. The program was originally set to expire in September. Holcomb said he hopes to drive more people back to work by ending the benefits.
At the start of the year, hundreds of thousands of people were receiving the federal benefits designed to help people who lost their jobs during the pandemic, including self employed individuals who were not eligible for state unemployment. As vaccinations and declining COVID-19 infection rates allowed businesses to reopen, employers began to complain that workers were not returning to their jobs.
