afghanistan. the democracy promotion agenda where the u.s. has a global reach but as i said, poland has some of the technology and some of the people who successfully carried out the solidarity revolution. we can be helpful to each other. and then we have promising economic prospects. u.s. companies are looking for shale gas in poland. we seem to be sitting on quite a lot of it. good for you. we hope it will get extracted. i like it. good thing to be sitting on. andrea matchle, we talked to chuck todd last segment about the gates comments last week, any secretary of defense that went to war in the afghanistan regionen in the future should have his head examined. chuck todd also said that he had approached jay carney who stated the white house had not known that gates was going to be
there have been statements made in the last days by what are now former members of the libyan government, fingering gadhafi, making it clear that the order came from the very top. i think we do need to move expeditiously. all right. we ll start there. welcome back to morning joe, at 33 past the hour. joining us now from washington, we have the foreign minister of poland, radoslav sikorski. also with us, andrea mitchell. we ll start with you, andrea. you ve been following this clear link that seems to have been made by gadhafi and lockerbie. these are accusations from libyan diplomats who have now left defected, still supposedly in the know. but, of course, their mote vagus could also be suspect. now they have raised, first of all, the anger of the families of the lockerbie victims,
making that statement. that seems to be extraordinary and i wonder whether gates is trying to pull petraeus along to give the president cover to start removing troops from afghanistan sooner rather than later. i think that is i think you re on to something. i thought it was extraordinary. i was surprised, frankly, that it did have more resonance. i d be curious to what the polish prime minister thinks as to troops in afghanistan as whether this is the beginning of an exit strategy, to give political coverage to the president. i think it was quite remarkable. i think there may have been something of a reaction to the ubiquitous donald rumsfeld. this may have been a not so subtle response to that. mr. foreign minister, would you like to respond to andrea s question? we are starting to drawn down this year. but last year in kabul, we
