HOUSTON - As the U.S. exceeds 500,000 COVID-19 deaths, we know more than 40,000 of those are Texans. Honestly, every day gets harder. The void, the emptiness gets larger every day, said Andrea Araujo. Her father is Dr. Carlos Enersto Aruajo Preza. He was the ICU director at HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball.
On Monday, Andrea had her first birthday since her father s passing.

When the pandemic hit the Houston area in March, Dr. Carlos Araujo Preza was on the front lines. A pulmonologist with his own practice, he had just been made the director of critical care at HCA Houston Healthcare in Tomball, a northwestern suburb.
