This month, New York City’s first vegan community fridge was erected amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. A collaboration between food justice organization Chilis On Wheels and activist groups Overthrow New York, Artists Athletes Activists, Hip Hop Is Green, and Vegan Activist Alliance, the Overthrow Community Fridge is stocked with fresh produce; dry goods such as beans, legumes, rice, and pasta; plant-based canned goods; vegan-friendly clothing; toiletries; and educational vegan literature.
Spearheaded by Eloísa Trinidad, Executive Director of Chilis On Wheels New York, and longtime activist and community organizer Power Malu, the community fridge was inspired by an urgent need to provide healthy, animal-free foods to the local community. “Not only is there a COVID-19 pandemic, but [there’s] also the pandemic of hunger and chronic disease,” Trinidad and Malu told VegNews. “The city and food justice organizations were not considering the health of the community

His choice for secretary of Labor, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, comes straight out of the labor movement. Biden’s pick for U.S. trade representative, Katherine Tai, was of one of two candidates endorsed by union leaders.
