One of Israel’s most wanted crime suspects was arrested in Johannesburg in November. It turns out he is linked to an unprecedented investigation into a globally powerful organised crime syndicate stemming from his home country.
Retired police officer Andre Lincoln was among those singled out for not ensuring Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear was under state protection at the time of his murder. Now, in an ironic twist, a security detail assigned to Lincoln has been removed.
Parliament was told a police watchdog report into detective Charl Kinnear’s assassination was restricted as senior officers were implicated. Earlier this month, Parliament heard proper processes were not followed when the report was classified, bringing into question whether it was indeed restr.
There have been suspicions over the years that police in SA’s gangsterism capital, the Western Cape, are colluding with gangs leaking information, plotting murders and running smear campaigns. A recent high court judgment adds weight to such theories.
