0 latest in the weather center. states from illinois and indiana hit really hard. how many reports of tornadoes did we see yesterday. 68 tornadoes in states like illinois, indiana and even across portions of ohio. we received over 300 reports of damaging winds. basically winds in excess of 50 miles per hour. what happened yesterday we had the strong cold front pushing eastward and basically you have warm air east of cold fronts behind it you have colder air. it really starlints to produce e retation in the storms. that is what does produce these tornado touchdowns. this particular outbreak could go down in the record book as one of the top five worst tornado outbreaks in history for the months of november. it is unusual seeing this kind of activity during fall time typically we see the activity during the spring months with warm air ahead of it. we have a thunderstorm watch early this morning across parts of the northeast. we had severe thunderstorm warning north of the new york city a
0 reporte reporter: hey there, good morning, mika. a tragic situation unfolding in central illinois where at least six people are dead. recovery teams still sifting through rubble like this which stretches for miles. there s concern that number could go up. they ll get a better idea of the extent of the damage here but they already know it is devastating. not only in illinois but across eight states in all with at least 40 tornadoes and violent thunderstorms which really rocked a big section of the country from kentucky all the way through michigan. hundreds of thousands still without power. dozens injured. we do know that fema teams already on the ground. we ve been told by the white house that the president continues to get updates on the situation. the teams are moving in, doing what they can, shelters open. a lot of people staying with family and friends. the beginning of what s sure to be a long and very difficult recovery. that s the latest here in washington, illinois. i m j
after he failed a field sobriety test. the highway patrol says it gave him that test right after he landed his plane here at petaluma airport. the chp says it was flying this patrol plane when the two officers spotted a lane flying recklessly. he didn t roll all the way over, but rolled inverted, rolled back. rolled inverted, did it three times. reporter: the plane is an aero-trek, similar to this one. at times, the plane was as low as 50 feet off the ground, dangerously close to freeway traffic. we re very fortunate that he didn t cause any crashes on the roadway. reporter: this pilot says he spotted the same plane yesterday. normally, you will see guys doing safety turns. this guy was kind of all over the place random. reporter: the chp followed the plane to petaluma airport. they had him do a series of field toe bright tests like they would any dui stop on the road. which he failed. reporter: the fie phi lot is michael ferrero of pen grove. they is very u
