Two first-year Pepperdine Waves menâs basketball players turned in surprise performances in their squadâs home loss last Saturday.Â
Waves freshman forward Kendall Munson scored 16 points and sophomore guard Robbie Heath, a transfer, contributed nine as Pepperdine fell to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, 75-63, on Dec. 19.Â
Senior guard Colbey Ross, the Wavesâ top player, said Munson and Heathâs showings prove that Pepperdineâs roster is deep in talent.Â
âIâve seen what they can do in practice,â Ross said. âI know how good they are. From them to come outâKendallâs first college game and Robbieâs first Division I college gameâit gives us hope and lets us know the future of our team is going to be taken care of. It was good to see them on the court doing a good job.â

MALIBU, CALIF. After two consecutive losses where it blew double-digit leads to top-30 teams, Pepperdine took care of business at home against Cal on Wednesday. The Waves hosted a Pac-12 opponent for the first time in 12 years, and took advantage of the rare opportunity, never trailing en route to a 74-62 win. Kessler Edwards led the way with 26 points and Wooden Award watch list player Colbey Ross nearly had a double-double, scoring nine points and adding 11 assists. The Waves built a 19-point lead and were able to show their dominance in front of a national stage on CBS Sports Network, proving that they are legit contender in the WCC.
