A bench of CJI DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and Manoj Misra observed that in light of the UT administration having withdrawn its earlier stand, there was not merit in carrying the proceedings.
The Supreme Court has stayed a Calcutta High Court order, which suspended Andaman and Nicobar Islands Chief Secretary Keshav Chandra and imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the Lieutenant Governor DK Joshi. The fine was imposed after the two officials failed to comply with a court order on giving workers their justified benefits. The issue was regarding the award of higher pay and DA to almost 4,000 Daily Rated Mazdoors (DRMs) employed by the Andaman and Nicobar Island administration.
