In 2007, Hannah Lawson battled a brain tumor. Now 14 years cancer free and a nurse, she's caring for young patients at the same place where she received treatment.
“Mike won’t tell you this, he’s got like 340 days in space - just shy of 400,” said Captain Wilmore. “So, he’s like number four on the U.S. all-time list. We like to see him in space.”
Still, the Starliner crew trains for every aspect of the mission in the air, on land and even in water.
“We train for major malfunctions, multiple major malfunctions, so we can handle it,” said Captain Wilmore. “It’s not just for our training and the spacecraft. It’s also for the ground team’s training, mission control.”
“We also train for the International Space Station. That includes training for science and other payloads that we work on,” said Colonel Fincke. “We also train for how to live day to day, for example how to fix the toilet. That’s important. You miss it when it’s gone.”
