Last month, we told you about 2 state employees who were charged with cruelty and failure to report abuse after a lengthy investigation into the injuries suffered by a 79 year old patient at the Southbury Training School, who was taken to Danbury Hospital for treatment. Now we have learned that one of them… 52 year old Howard Hawk of Waterbury… has pleaded not guilty. Hawk… along with 27-year-old David Benson of Torrington… were arrested last month. Benson was taken into custody April 4th. Hawk turned himself in to state police on April 6th.
One of the most watched sporting events of the year takes place this coming Saturday, and while the event itself only lasts about two minutes, the build up is already underway. Now comes word that a Connecticut man… Mike Gualtieri of West Hartford… is part of the stable group that owns Confidence Game, one of 20 horses that will be running in this Saturday’s “Run For The Roses” at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Confidence Game will hit the track Saturday with 30-1 odds at winning.
The first new farmers market in Ridgefield for years has announced that it plans to open this summer at Jesse Lee Church… at 207 Main Street. The bi-weekly market has plans to be open by July 15 on the Church Commons property, and they will then be there from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every other Saturday through October. Admission will be free, and they will offer the freshest produce from each season. The last time a new farmers market opened in Ridgefield was about 10 years ago. Organizers of this latest effort are now lining up vendors and volunteers.
A change in schedule for Danbury High School Athletics… They now say the 2023 O’Grady Relays have been cancelled. The relays were scheduled to be held today and tomorrow, but the weather forecast for this weekend forced them to make the decision to cancel them this year. They made the announcement on Twitter, where they said they hope to see everyone again in 2024… under fairer skies!
