Skerritt stresses importance of English tours
Article by March 16, 2021
Cricket West Indies president, Ricky Skerritt, has defended the decision to allow the Caribbean side to tour the United Kingdom last year at the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic, contending major benefits had been derived from the move, including the cementing of England’s series in the region next January.
Skerritt, who is seeking re-election at month end along with vice-president Dr Kishore Shallow, said negotiations about the traditionally lucrative series began during discussions over the historic bio-secure three-Test tour.
And the former St Kitts and Nevis cabinet minister said that due to CWI’s commitment to fulfilling the tour amidst the challenging circumstances posed by the coronavirus, the governing body had been able to also advance a proposal to the England and Wales Cricket Board for an even bigger tour.

Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) presidency hopeful, Anand Sanasie, has sought to clarify that former president Dave Cameron, is neither a member of his campaign team nor would he serve, in any capacity, should his bid to become head of regional body prove successful later this month.
Earlier this month, Cameron publicly threw his support behind Sanasie and his running mate, Calvin Hope, of Barbados, following news that the pair would challenge incumbent Ricky Skerritt and his VP, Dr Kishore Shallow.

SKERRITT AND SHALLOW FOR CWI 2ND TERM
Cricket West Indies President, Ricky Skerritt and Vice President, Dr. Kishore Shallow have officially launched their bid for a second two-year term, with promises to build on the 1st term of their leadership of regional cricket.
Under a campaign slogan “Forward ‘WI’ Go”, Skerritt and Dr. Shallow have promised to continue to lead the fight for organizational modernization, including greater transparency, accountability, and partnership with all stakeholders, designed to support and prepare for achieving the best possible on-field results.
Skerritt said he and Dr. Shallow would also continue to battle against petty boardroom politics and territorial insularity, two of the biggest enemies of West Indies cricket progress. They are being challenged by Guyana Cricket Board’s Secretary, Anand Sanasie and Barbados Cricket Association Vice President, Calvin Hope.
