Share prices of Coal India gained up to 4.1 % at the start of Mahurat trading session. Coal India had reported a strong performance during September quarter with 9.85% increase in revenue and a 12.51% increase in profit year-over-year.
The companies are expected to report a strong performance during Q1 helped by good marketing margins. Although benchmark refining margins declined during Q1, discounted crude sourced from Russia is likely to support refining margins for oil marketing companies, analysts said.
JSW Steel’s relatively soft performance in the December ended quarter (Q3) compared to previous quarters meant that shares fell more than 4% on Monday. Rising cost pressures and subdued domestic steel realisations had an impact on Q3 earnings. Crude steel production was at 4.41 million tonne in Q3, up 8% sequentially, while average capacity utilisation .

But unlike the foreign exchange market, where RBI has been successful in talking down or up the exchange rate, equity markets didn’t seem to heed the warnings.
