With forensics underway, the defense representing Jorge Solis the man accused of murdering 22-year-old Rifle woman Ana Victoria Rascon in Gunnison County is asking that “confidential experts to be present at testing or to in certain circumstances perform their own testing.”
“We will be asking that the experts be present for testing or run their own testing based on the right to effective assistance of counsel,” public defender Kori Zapletal said.
Solis, 24, was arrested March 17 in Mesa County after he was suspected of murdering and leaving Rascon’s body in a home in southwest Gunnison County on March 6. According to court documents, Solis had “knowingly attempted to set fire to, burn, or caused to burn a building or occupied structure.
The man accused of murdering 22-year-old Ana Victoria Rascon is in custody and first appeared before a Gunnison County District Court judge on March 26.
Jorge Solis, 24, was arrested March 17. Rascon’s body was discovered by a caretaker in Gunnison County on March 7. He was originally charged with three felony counts, including murder in the first degree, criminal attempt to commit first-degree arson and first-degree criminal trespassing.
“On or about March 6, 2021, Jorge Solis unlawfully, feloniously, after deliberation, and with the intent to cause the death of a person other than himself, caused the death of Ana Rascon,” documents provided by the Seventh Judicial District state.
A woman recently found deceased in Gunnison County has been identified as 22-year-old Rifle resident Ana Victoria Rascon, according to a Tuesday news release.
Her body was discovered in Cimarron, according to Rascon’s death noticed in the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel.
“The victim was found by a caretaker in the early afternoon of (March 7),” the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office release states. “The caretaker notified the Sheriff’s Office of his discovery.
This homicide is not being investigated as a ’make my day law’ incident, the homeowner was not home at the time,” the release states.
Colorado’s “Make my Day Law” allows residents to use lethal force against trespassers.
