A teenager who died during a school trip to New York would have survived if she had received antibiotics in the days before her death, an inquest heard.
Ana Uglow, 17, a student at Bristol Grammar School, collapsed in her hotel room and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai West hospital on December 19 2019.
Avon Coroner’s Court has heard that Ana, a senior prefect who aspired to attend Oxford University, was on a school history trip to Washington, Philadelphia and New York at the time.
Her parents, David and Natalia Uglow, said Ana told teachers she thought she had a chest infection and asked to see a doctor two days before her death but this was “refused”.

A teenager who died on a school trip could still have survived if she had been treated in the hours before her death, an inquest heard.
Ana Uglow, 17, a student at Bristol Grammar School, collapsed and died later in hospital on 19 December 2019.
A consultant general paediatrician said Miss Uglow would have survived had she taken antibiotics two days before.
Dr Nelly Ninis said the chance of Ana surviving with treatment six hours before her death was above 50% .
A senior prefect, of Redland, Bristol, Miss Uglow was on a school history trip to Washington, Philadelphia and New York when she fell ill.

A teenager who died from sepsis on a school trip was clearly very unwell shortly before she collapsed, her friend told an inquest.
Ana Uglow, 17, a Bristol Grammar School student, collapsed in her hotel room in 2019 during a school trip to America.
Miss Uglow told friends Katie Meredith and Jenny Burgess I can t feel anything before she collapsed.
Avon Coroner s Court previously heard teacher Rory Hambly say Ana was lucid when he went to the room.
But Miss Uglow s friends described her as very pale when they fetched her teachers and told how she asked Mr Hambly: Why is this happening to me? .
