correct. the rnc was talking about everybody knows anybody can broke in and cause damage. that was not called for, those people, we ve said from the very beginning, should be in jail. what they were talking about was the six rnc members who january 6th has subpoenaed who weren t even here, who were in florida that day. reporter: so you re in support of that resolution? now, it s not clear exactly what he was referring to, the six republican members of the national committee who were not in washington on the day of january 6th, were in florida, he said. he said that s what they were referring to when they re talking about legitimate political discourse, but that is not what was referenced at all in that resolution that was approved last week by the committee, but i m told from a mccarthy aide that he got that number, six, from the committee itself. the committee did confirm they told him that but it s still unclear who exactly he s talking about but there was, ana, some pushback amo
cross this bridge every day. all of this is part of this move to fight canada s vaccine mandate for truckers. prime minister justin trudeau has been calling for the two weeks of protests which have only grown across this country to end. from masking up to paying up. your next trip to the supermarket is about to get even pricier. i m sorry, don t shoot the messenger here. a new report predicts food prices will be rising 5% to 6%. and cnn business reporter matt egan is here. give us some examples. what can we expect? well, ana, supermarket sticker shock is real. unfortunately, it might get worse before it gets better. we know that food at home has already gone up in cost. 6.5% in december from the year before. that s the most since 2008. fresh fruit up by nearly 8%. eggs more than 11%. and meat prices nearly 15%. if you look at the past two years, basically the span of
public health experts have been weighing in. what are we hearing? that s right. we really are hearing kind of a split response here. some public health experts say let s get our case numbers and hospitalization rates down even more before we start to plan to lift measures. and then on the other hand, we hear other experts saying, look, we ve made improvements in getting case numbers down and getting hospitalizations down and getting deaths down so now is the time to start planning to lift mitigation measures. but overall, ana, the most passionate i should say response i ve heard so far has come from cnn medical analyst dr. leana wen. she says that this is the right time for the federal government to weigh in. have a listen. while we re seeing states and locales take matters into their own hands, that means the federal government is becoming less and less relevant. if the cdc guidance they re putting out is now not being followed by virtually anyone, that makes the cdc and our
show. same in north carolina where it s pretty closely divided. the argument is that republicans are pushing it forward. the state court also there saying, that can t stand. all of this is important, ana, because if these redistricting plans stand with no changes, the redistricting alone could give the republicans back control of the house, but maybe with these court challenges, maybe not. and all these states are doing redistricting right now, so what is the landscape more broadly nationwide? it seems like we re at the point where politicians pick their voters instead of the other way arou around. it s not just republicans. the difference is democrats control many fewer state legislatures so their impact is less profound out there. for right now, republicans control enough that they can basically draw the congressional districts 187 of them and 75 are under democratic control so you can see the republican impact can be much higher there, and
a hint there may be some room for discussion. that s pretty much all we can say. essentially what emanuel macron has done is take, a some of that discord by going to moscow and saying to vladimir putin, since the end of the cold war there have been misunderstandings, traumatisms. we need to sit and talk about what security guarantees we can give each other in order to ensure european peace. and that is an important step that goes some way to what vladimir putin has been asking for. so there s the hope they may begin to talk. vladimir putin himself saying that emanuel macron s proposals could provide the basis for some concrete steps that they might take together. they ll keep talking, but it s a start, ana. at least they re talking. on the other hand you have russia today saying it was moving salt ships to the waters off ukraine. what does that signal strategically? that s right. i think it s important to remember that even as we have this beginning of a talk of de-escalation, the
