Austin Chamber Music Festival returns at historic Neill-Cochran House

The tree remembers. Or so I imagined as the Schumann Chamber Players opened the Austin Chamber Music Festival during an enchanted evening on the lawn of the historic Neill-Cochran House. The tree in question is an enormous heritage pecan that sheltered the festival audience at dusk on May 27. Like the nearby 1855 Greek revival house on San Gabriel Street with its six tall white columns and thick limestone walls that tree likely witnessed many a musical and social event like this one during its 166-year history. When built, the stately house perched on the rim of the Shoal Creek Canyon, located about a mile outside the Austin city limits. These days, West Campus, which surrounds the house, has become the most densely populated residential zone in the city.

By KMFA 89.5, Staff Submission. About SCHUMANN CHAMBER PLAYERS Thursday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. | Neill-Cochran House Music to stir the high emotions of the times. Schumann Chamber Players kicks off the 25th Annual Chamber Music Festival with some of the most exciting and moving repertoire ever composed. This special 25th anniversary opening night program includes works by Rachmaninov, Baker, and Mendelssohn. Seating pods of 1-4 people will be created based on each ticket order. Pods will be spaced six feet apart and masks will be required. Subject to availability, $12 Student Rush (with student ID) and $35 General Admission tickets may be purchased at the box office on the evening of the concert. Please note that the venue capacity is very limited. Premium seats are sold out for this event.
