ST. LOUIS Members of the University of Missouri marching band on Saturday found out they were selected to perform at Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2022.
In a news release, Macy s said Marching Mizzou was selected as one of nine bands from more than 100 that applied to march in the parade. The appearance marks the first time the band has performed in the parade in its 135-year history.
COLUMBIA - Marching Mizzou received the surprise of a lifetime during its end of the year banquet. The 137th band of Marching Mizzou will be performing at the Macyâs Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 24, 2022.
âFor many families, watching the parade is a part of a Thanksgiving Day tradition,â said Associate Director of Bands and Director of Marching Mizzou Dr. Amy Knopps.
Marching Mizzou was established in 1885. This is the first year in Marching Mizzou history the band will be performing in the parade. Yet, one woman has kept this secret since before the pandemic.
âIâve had to sit on this news for 14 months,â Knopps said.
This will mark the first time the marching band will participate in the annual holiday tradition in New York.
Wesley Whatley, creative producer for the parade, worked with Marching Mizzou director Amy Knopps and other university officials to share the announcement with band members during a virtual gathering Saturday night.
“With a more than 135-year history, Marching Mizzou has a special legacy as one of the finest and most respected university band programs in the country,” Whatley said in a news release. “The Macy’s Band Selection committee is proud to welcome the University of Missouri as they join our holiday celebration and march in the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.”
