San Diego County Supervisors vote to keep protecting sexual predators in court -

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 today against supporting legislation aimed at keeping court hearings for Sexually Violent Predators open to the public. Supervisors Joel Anderson sponsored the proposal backing Senate Bill 248 and voted in favor of it, along with colleague Jim Desmond. The bill would require that court proceedings remain public for the civil commitments of Sexually Violent Predators or SVPs offenders convicted of sexually violent offenses and diagnosed with a mental disorder that makes them likely to re-offend, according to Sen. Patricia Bates, R-Laguna Niguel. San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan supports the bill, which Bates introduced in January.

Known as the glass coffin, for both its large plate glass windows and its older clientele, it was the first bar I went to when I moved to the West Coast in 2013 as a bright-eyed PhD student. Its Tiffany lampshades and cozy interior welcomed me in. DA s Office: Judge closes another hearing for sexually violent predator

SAN DIEGO    A Superior Court judge has again decided to close to the public a hearing involving a man classified by the state as a sexually violent predator seeking release from a state hospital so he can live under supervision in San Diego County. Judge David Gill agreed to close a Dec. 16 evidentiary hearing for Steven Dejarlais, who was convicted of rapes in 1994 and 1996, according to the District Attorney’s Office. Dejarlais, 52, is asking to be granted conditional release from a state hospital were he wasconfined after serving time in prison. The hearing is expected to delve into his treatment at the hospital, and include details about his medical and psychological health.
