Michael John Chapko, 66, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, following a long battle with cancer. Michael was born on March 15, 1956, to John and Barbara Chapko in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended South Milwaukee High School where he started on a conference championship football team, and later earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Michael obtained accreditation as a volleyball coach, and the years he spent coaching girls' volleyball were especially meaningful to him. Michael spent his career primarily in K-12 school environments as the Director of Maintenance & Operations. While living in Wisconsin he worked for Milwaukee Public Schools, and after relocating to California he held administrative positions with Moreno Valley Unified School District, Chino Valley Unified School District, and East Whittier City School District. Killer given 146 years in prison For felony murder in slayings of 2 during robbery Brooke Wendel s family and friends wore pink T-shirts with the words “Justice for Brooke.” Several people held up framed photos of the deceased young woman. Wendel s mother, Amy Gilliam, was one of four to speak during Friday s sentencing for her daughter s killer, Jamesley Paul. Her daughter was a “hard worker in everything she did, a free spirit and an old soul.” She was a top student at Northrup High School. Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Paul to 146 years in prison. Gilliam cursed Paul and said she hoped his actions would “haunt him until the end of time,” and said she d be keeping tabs on him.

By December it was tied with 2016, the hottest year ever recorded.
