Tax hikes, higher ed, roads highlighted at St. Cloud forum on state budget
DFLers in the Minnesota House and executive branch are united in plans to create a fifth tier income tax and raise taxes on households earning more than $1 million, said St. Cloud DFL Rep. Dan Wolgamott Tuesday. We are being bold. We are raising taxes on those who can afford to chip in a little more, Wolgamott said from St. Paul during an online budget listening session.
Republicans who control the state Senate are not on board with any proposal to raise taxes.
Both chambers and the governor will have to agree on the final budget by the end of June, when the fiscal year ends. The Legislative session ends in mid-May.
