(Brian Korthals/Daily Globe) WORTHINGTON The city will not solicit payment of registration fees by owners of rental properties for 2021, members of the Worthington City Council agreed Monday night, though it will continue to ask that such owners still register their properties. Council members voted during a February meeting to rescind the city’s Rental Housing Registration and Inspection Plan, a decision prompted by both an inability to do rental property inspections due to COVID-19 and a need to develop a potentially stricter and more enforceable policy. The council debated the merits of keeping the fee in place for 2021 despite rescinding the program, as well as options that include making the fees optional or waiving them entirely.

(Special to The Globe) WORTHINGTON It appears a new neighborhood park will be part of the city’s planned Cecilee Addition, given the consensus opinion during Wednesday afternoon’s special Worthington City Council meeting. City council members, in a joint discussion with members of the Worthington Planning Commission, indicated their preference for a new park as part of the project. While three alternative locations for the park were presented, a final site was not determined though one of the three choices appears to be a clear favorite.

(Brian Korthals/Daily Globe) WORTHINGTON The Worthington City Council on Monday night conducted its annual meeting Monday night, choosing its mayor pro tem for 2021 and approving annual appointments. During a meeting of just about five minutes in duration, city council Mike Harmon was elected as mayor pro tem for the next 12 months. Harmon, who also served in the post during 2020, will act in the event of Mayor Mike Kuhle’s absence throughout the current year. Committee and subcommittee assignments for the five Worthington City Council members and Kuhle were also approved Monday. Those assignments are as follows:
