New Bedford Girl Scouts troops work together during COVID-19

NEW BEDFORD – These girls might sell deliciously scrumptious cookies such as Thin Mints, Lemon-ups and Tagalongs – but the Girl Scouts is about much more than sales. And during the COVID-19 pandemic, these SouthCoast troops continue working hard to stay united. The Girl Scouts mission is to help girls feel empowered, make new friends and discover new skills. Through enriching experiences as a team, a troop can develop respecting values to guide them through the world. They can also learn how to contribute to the community and acquire leadership proficiencies. The first Girl Scout troop was organized by founder Juliette Gordon Low on March 12, 1912. In 1950, the Girl Scouts of the USA was chartered by Congress. Now, according to Girlscouts.org, there are 2.5 million members.
