A new day for Sunset Lake
Groundbreaking is the culmination of 11-year effort.
From left, parks commissioner Tony Lima, former conservation agent Liz Durkee, conservation committee chair Joan Hughes, FANS president Donna Hayes, and parks commissioner Amy Billings break ground at Sunset Lake during a small ceremony Monday.
In 2010, a group of neighbors living near Sunset Lake in Oak Bluffs had an idea to improve the lake. Eleven years later that idea has become a reality.
Early Monday morning, the Friends and Neighbors of Sunset Lake (FANS), along with other stakeholders, gathered for a small groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction and renovation at the lake.

How do you build a five-person pyramid? The Mascenic Vikings winter spirit team has figured that one out, along with a host of other new questions posed by this unusual sports season.
“I’ve definitely tested my limits this year,” said Mascenic senior captain Sami Brundige. “I never thought I’d be able to do the pyramid with only five people.”
Mascenic head coach Amy Billings said that team numbers are down around the state this winter, and that’s true at Mascenic too, but the Vikings are making the most of it.
“They’re really pulling it together,” Billings said.
Keith Urban Joins Amy Shark For Ed Sheeran Penned ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’
Amy Shark’s new song ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ features Keith Urban and was written with Ed Sheeran.
Sheeran wrote the song after Amy told him she had never written a love song for her husband Shane Billings. “Ed asked me if I wrote songs about my man, I told him I do, but love songs aren’t really for us. He then smiled and said, “ok that’s what we’ll do then”. This song is as loved up as you’ll get from me and I love it.”

Oak Bluffs is seeking restitution from Thomas Hjerpe, 54, of Northborough for removing a tree in Ocean Park.
Oak Bluffs selectmen gave parks commissioner Amy Billings the greenlight to discuss legal action against a seasonal resident over the unauthorized removal of a tree in Ocean Park.
In an email to The Times, Oak Bluffs Police Sgt. Daniel Cassidy said Thomas Hjerpe, 54, of Northborough contacted him and Billings after a Facebook post from Mark Crossland asked anyone with information to contact local authorities about the disappearance of the tree.
