That wrongway driver was headed down northbound 85 when it collided headon with the driver of the honda civic, roughly at the central expressway overpass this occurred. We know the driver of the honda civic was a 35yearold man from american canyon. The suv registered in Mountain View as i mentioned it caught fire and we have learned that driver was a woman. What do you expect was going on with the wrongway driver . Why were they driving the wrong direction . Its hard to say. Wrongway drivers are typically caused by impairment. It can sometimes be confusion, but based on the time of day, it could have been anything right now. We dont have anything firmly indicating that, but in general, wrongway drivers do tend to be impaired drivers or those who are kind of confused. We begin tonight with developing news out of redwood city. Thats where a fire is burning at the sims metal scrap facility, which is not far from the shoreline. Crews responded to that fire on seaport boulevard at about 3 00 this afternoon, and witnesses describe what they saw and smelled when those flames broke out. Its probably been the biggest fire ive seen. Yeah, in this, in this metal spot next door here, i kind of just smelled, maybe, like burning. Burning metal and burning, just burning metal and burning maybe rubber and stuff like that. Yeah the bay area air quality district says theres a potential for that smoke to impact neighborhoods downwind from their like.
