COVID centres in the area
Exactly a year ago, Pune’s largest slum
Janata Vasahat had managed to fight and successfully stay away from the COVID pandemic with coordinated efforts of its residents and authorities, but amidst the second wave, the civic authorities have turned a blind eye towards the
slum pocket. The negligence has resulted in 35 positive cases and 13 casualties in the locality during the ongoing second wave. The residents have alleged that they have been advised to self-quarantine and home-isolate, which has increased the infection and later they had to roam around the city looking out for oxygen beds, ventilators and other emergency treatment, which would have inadvertently made them virus carriers.
