welcome back. time for what now. arizona governor jan brewer has issued an executive order that denies benefits to immigrants who qualify for deportation deferrals and work permits, under the obama administration s new amnesty policy. are we surprised that jan brewer, michael hastings, wants to make life difficult for immigrants seeking amnesty in this country? no, not at all. and i think obviously it s a politically effective issue for president obama to run on. and jan brewer s position on immigration is well known and going to do what she feels best for her local elections. this is equivalent of a policy finger wag in the administration s face, although i think much of the country, i think there were 13,000 people lined up in chicago yesterday to get their applications of volunteer centers. they re expecting 800,000 for this new immigration program, too. yeah, and i have to wonder how happy governor brewer s party is with her, because the optics were so good for the admini
it is a major development from an administration that s been under fire for record deportations. straight to brianna keilar at the white house who has been following this. it s not a stunning reversal of any policy or anything from the obama administration, but it certainly did come as a surprise that the announcement was going to be made today. reporter: this is certainly a very big deal, don, to protect young illegal immigrants. this is something that democrats and some republicans have been calling for in congress for over ten years now and has had a hard time getting through congress. but basically here is what the announcement says. if someone came to the united states as a child, so 16 years or younger, they don t have a criminal record, they don t pose a national security or public safety risk, in school or a high school graduate or have their ged or honor bli discharged former member of the military and not over 30, they would be eligible to defer deportation for a
cracking down on illegal immigration drops crime. ok. so for folks who are unfamiliar with what you folks are doing out there, how are you cracking down? pretty simple thing. if you break the law and arrested for any crime, it can be shoplifting. it could be drunk in public, we mandate that our police officers check the immigration status and if you are, in fact, an illegal immigrant, you serve our time in jail, serve your time in jail and then handed over to ice for deportation. what has been the relationship between you and ice? we ve done countless interviews on this show if in fact the city or county is tough on illegal immigration, ice isn t. well, the men and women who work at ice are just fine. they re doing a good job. the problem is the political leadership over there, morton is terrible. they are essentially have established an amnesty policy by default, they issued an
drinking, but possibly students are being much more careful and caution and if they think there s a chance their friends might be sick they re much more comfortable seeking health and that could be a relief as numbers go up. what about parents concerned about the new policy thing, is this going to encourage my son or daughter to start drinking? i don t think it encourages students to start drinking, i think the parents notify if there s a problem. if the student are in hospital multiple times or an alcohol issue, it s important to get parents and college administrators involved and it s also important that the students don t fear their friend s parents will be notified if they were to seek help because that could cause them to not go for help. there amnesty policy there s more to it. they actually this a matter of speaking teach you how to make a drink. tell me about that. dave s ears perked up there. on second day at harvard we had a meeting with the drug
