Oscar voting is wrapping on Wednesday, but it
ain’t over ’til it’s over. Film distributor Neon, the reigning champion at the Academy Awards for best picture with “Parasite,” has another stack of contenders this year, all unique in awards discussions. CEO and co-founder Tom Quinn has always pushed the boundaries of cinema, and deeply believes in cultural representation in front and behind the camera, and the way consumers and Academy voters accept the film medium.

Rose Glass’ genre-bending drama “Saint Maud” stars Morfydd Clark, whose portrayal of a nurse spiraling down into a whirlpool of ecstatic faith after the death of a patient under her care has mesmerized audiences and critics. It’s a star-making vehicle for Clark, who’s in New Zealand, shooting “The Lords of the Rings” series for Amazon. Clark can also be seen in Armando Iannucci’s “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” scene-stealing as David’s first love Dora (she also plays his mother). When she met Iannucci, “It was a meeting-your-heroes moment, and he kind of surpassed all my expectations. He was just so nice and funny and generous and offered me two roles. I really loved the fact of the double casting because David Copperfield was searching for a comfort that was taken away from him too soon.”

Love, Victor is inspired by and set in the same world as the 2018 gay coming-of-age film
Love, Simon.
The half-hour series centers on Victor (played by Michael Cimino), a new student at Creekwood High School, as he adjusts to a new city and struggles with his sexual orientation.
In season 2, newly out Victor enters his junior year of high school.

All awards seasons lead to the Oscars, but for an actor or actress to stand on the Dolby Theatre stage (or as is most likely the case this year, accept the statuette virtually), the Golden Globes and SAG awards are the two most influential precursors.
The SAG Awards have existed since 1995 and quickly established themselves as a place where an actor or actress would be recognized by their peers, due to its large crossover with AMPAS voters. In the past 20 years, only three people have won an Academy Award for acting without garnering, at minimum, a nomination from both the Globes and the SAGs: Marcia Gay Harden for 2000’s “Pollock” in supporting actress (missed Globes and SAG), Christoph Waltz for 2012’s “Django Unchained” in supporting actor (missed SAG) and Regina King for 2018’s “If Beale Street Could Talk” in supporting actress (misse
