2 lakh tonnes of potato to be exported to Malaysia from Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 3, 2021 (BSS) – Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md Mesbahul Islam has said initiative has been taken to export two lakh tonnes of potato to Malaysia from Rangpur this year.
He disclosed the information while inaugurating export of potato, produced adopting good agricultural practices, by cutting ribbon in a function held at Pairaband union in Mithapukur upazila on Saturday afternoon as the chief guest.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and the Sara Bangla Krishak Society jointly organised the event.

DHAKA, March 13, 2021 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak today said that the government has undertaken a project involving Taka 438 crore to cultivate fallow land across the country as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to tackle food crisis amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Through this project, family nutrition garden will be established in the yard and fallow land. As a result, food production will increase further,” he said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Krishibid Samiti at Bangabandhu International Conference Center here today, said a press release.

Of the 62 rivers in Barishal division, one-fourth have lost navigability forcing water vessel owners to suspend operations in and around 460km of 27 waterways.
A survey of Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) revealed this today.
The survey titled The feasibility of river management by increasing the navigability of rivers in Barisal division, reducing waterlogging, restoring wetland ecosystems, increasing irrigation and landing facilities was presented at a programme organised by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said the sustainable management will be ensured to increase the navigability of 31 waterways in Barishal division.
“The sustainable management will be ensured to increase the navigability of 31 waterways in Barishal division and illegal occupation of all rivers will be evicted,” he said.
The state minister said these while addressing as chief guest a meeting at the conference room of Barisal Circuit House, organized by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to increase the navigability of rivers in Barisal division, reduce water logging, restore wetland ecosystem, increase irrigation and landing facilities, an official release here.
