The meeting was held as a follow-up of the appeal issued by Government of India on August 3 which had asked the people to amicably resolve the issue of burial of the mortal remains of the victims of the Manipur violence.
The recent violence in Manipur has so far claimed the lives of nearly 100 people. Scores of others have lost their houses, while schools and churches in the state have been arsoned. Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited Manipur after 27 days of unrest, held several peace talks and has assured of restoring peace in the state soon.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his four-day visit to Manipur, met with civil society organizations and announced a committee to monitor a special CBI probe into clashes in the state.
