The public is invited to join astronomers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Sunwheel beginning at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, to safely observe an eclipse of the sun.
A crescent-shaped sun will rise in the northeast, and it will remain partially eclipsed by the moon until 6:33 a.m. An eclipse occurring at sunrise is a rare and beautiful event. Because the eclipse will occur just 10 days before the summer solstice, the Sunwheel’s standing stones will lend extra significance to the moment.

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – The rift between Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker and the state’s teachers unions deepened Thursday as the Republican bristled at calls to take additional steps to vaccinate educators before ending virtual education in favor of in-classroom learning. Labor leaders want firefighters to administer vaccine shots to teachers at their schools. Baker said Thursday he won’t take vaccines from vulnerable individuals to give it to a targeted population, Nearly two dozen Massachusetts businesses that temporarily lost their liquor licenses for violating state rules meant to slow the spread of the coronavirus also received a total of almost $1.4 million in state COVID-19 relief grants.
