A 2% increase to Amherst County’s meals tax will take effect Jan. 1, a 3-1 vote from the county’s board of supervisors that is intended to generate a funding stream for an upcoming renovation and expansion project at the county’s high school and other future capital improvement needs.
At a special called meeting Sept. 7, the Amherst County School Board approved a resolution requesting the county’s board of supervisors issue generational obligation bonds for construction of an addition to Amherst County High School and a renovation.
