(WALB) - The Police said Christopher Hurley, Jr., 27, turned himself in at the Sumter County Jail on Thursday around 7:30 p.m. He is being charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The other suspect, Devonte Jamal Tucker, 26, was taken into custody on Feb. 17. He is being charged with seven counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

(WALB) - The Americus Police Department is investigating a series of shooting incidents that occurred between Sunday and Tuesday, Chief Mark Scott said Tuesday. Just before midnight on Sunday, officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Cherokee where shots had been fired into an apartment. Bullets hit a 15-year-old boy twice. He is currently hospitalized in stable condition, according to Scott. Multiple shots were fired into the apartment, hitting two females, 28 and 20. Both victims were taken to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center where they were treated.

(WALB) - No charges have been released for an Americus man who was taken into custody in connection to a weekend shooting. Jaron Griffin, 22, is a suspect in a Police said the shooting happened in a shopping center parking lot in the 1400 block of East Forsyth Street near Belk and Hibbett Sports. ”Officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the area and found a male victim with gunshot wounds seated in a car in the parking lot. The victim was identified as David Joshua Mitchell, age 26, pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Maj. Hermon Lamar with the Americus Police Department.

(WALB) - Three POST-certified criminal justice technology students were awarded Smarr-Smith scholarships recently at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC). Cedric Smith of Americus, Chandler Buchanan of Cuthbert, and David Rueda-Fierros of Americus were each selected to receive Smarr-Smith scholarships from the South Georgia Technical College Foundation. The Smarr-Smith endowed scholarships at South Georgia Technical College were created in Cedric Smith, Chandler Buchanan, and David Rueda-Fierros, the three SGTC POST certified Criminal Justice students who returned to earn their Criminal Justice associate degree and were awarded the Smarr-Smith scholarship.
