AMERICUS â The Americus Police Department, with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, is currently investigating a shooting incident involving a juvenile victim.
Officers with the Americus Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded to a residence on the 900 block of Cypress Avenue recently at approximately 8:12 p.m. to a reported gunshot wound. The victim, a 16-year-old male, was transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and then flown to a trauma center in Macon for treatment.

AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) - One South Georgia Technical College student was recently named the recipient of the Smallwood-Sondron Law Enforcement Academy Scholarship.
Americus native Matthew Perrine is currently part of the college’s Law Enforcement Academy Class 21-01 training.
Upon graduating, Perrine will be joining the Americus Police Department.
The scholarship was created in memory of Peach County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Patrick Sondron and Daryl Smallwood. The two deputies died in the line of duty in November 2016.
Police searching for parents of lost Central Georgia girl

Update: Police say they have identified the girl s parents and she is heading back home.
Americus police officers want the public s help finding the parents of a girl who wandered off Tuesday morning.
The Americus Police Department shared a photo of the girl, who they say they found on Tripp Street.
According to police, the girl, who says her name is Ariela, walked away from home this morning.
The girl told officers that her mother s last name may be Mack.
