In a staff report, the California Coastal Commission is urged to approve the 350,000 square foot hotel project for the American Tin Cannery. Local environmental groups are pushing back.
“I think as a city we need to keep moving forward, and I think it’s going to be up to the Coastal Commission. I think we should go one step further and have a council member present at the meeting.” Councilwoman Debby Beck said.
Developers have submitted a revised plan, still to create a hotel resort, but with 206-rooms, reduced retail space and public access elements such as a public park and a plaza at the corner of Ocean View Boulevard.
