Plaquemines Port in Louisiana and APM Terminals announce future port collaboration
Plaquemines Port and APM Terminals have announced an agreement to work together to discuss the future design of the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District (PPHTD), including the consideration of APM Terminals as the future terminal operator.
The facility is in the early stages of development as a deep water, multi-modal, state-of-the-art container terminal in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Located on the Mississippi river just 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico the gateway port would cater to exporters and importers who could tap into the multimodal routing options from rail, truck and barge. The agreement represents a formal discussion phase whereby both parties will conduct multiple studies prior to making a final investment decision. The proposed, environmentally friendly terminal, will be powered by a combination of LNG and electricity.

Developers of a port under development in Cairo, Ill., signed a project labor agreement April 27 with the Illinois AFL-CIO guaranteeing at least 500 union jobs in building it.
The Alexander-Cairo Port District represents one of the largest investments in southern Illinois in decades, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said in announcing the port last August. The state’s Rebuild Illinois capital plan is providing $40 million in funding for construction of the port.
The port district is securing additional private investment and structuring the port as a public-private partnership, according to a news release from the port’s public relations firm announcing the labor agreement.

Louisiana now has at least three potential new terminals being explored for the Lower Mississippi River below New Orleans. The Port of New Orleans Board of Commissioners earlier this month authorized the port to move ahead with property acquisitions related to a new container terminal in St. Bernard Parish. Likewise, the Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District, in partnership with American Patriot Holdings, is in the midst of a due-diligence period for a container terminal and related fleet of inland container ships proposed for lower Plaquemines Parish.
Now, the Louisiana International Deep Water Gulf Transfer Terminal (LIGTT) Authority has released an RFQ/RFP seeking qualifications and proposals from developers for a cargo transfer terminal to be located about 2.5 miles below the east bank of Southwest Pass near the mouth of the Mississippi River.
