The American Museum of Science and Energy has been closed since mid-March 2020. Author: WBIR Staff Updated: 11:20 PM EDT May 20, 2021
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. After a year-and-a-half without anyone walking through its doors, the American Museum of Science and Energy is welcoming people back starting Friday.
Even as businesses around the museum opened, the AMSE had to keep its doors shut until receiving federal approval to reopen. Exhibits showcasing scientific insights and feats of engineering remained unseen and untouched in the museum.
Now, officials announced that people will be able to walk through the history of the Manhattan Project and national lab technology once more.
AMSE re-opens
After a long closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Museum of Science and Energy has re-opened.
AMSE re-opened at 9 a.m. Friday, May 21.
AMSE will be open to a limited number of visitors at a time, 50. Museum visitors will be asked to maintain an appropriate physical distance from others (the general guidance has been to maintain a distance of six feet or more, when possible, from people who live outside your home).
The museum said visitors must wear masks at all times. Visitors will be asked to provide a phone number to aid in contact tracing, and they must answer the following questions: Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days? Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat? Have you had a fever in the last 48 hours?
