36 US lawmakers ask Pak for review of acquittal in Daniel Pearl s murder case ANI | Updated: Feb 03, 2021 08:27 IST Washington DC [US], February 3 (ANI): A total of 36 members of the US Congress on Tuesday issued a letter to Pakistan s Ambassador to the United States, urging the country to undertake a full review of acquittal of the accused in the case of 2002 killing of American journalist Daniel Pearl. In a letter to Pakistan envoy Asad Majeed Khan, the US lawmakers said, In the years since the tragic murder of Daniel Pearl, the US and Pakistan have maintained a robust partnership, particularly in the areas of security cooperation, energy, trade, and investment. We look forward to continuing to work with you to advance this relationship.

Pak SC extends interim detention order of Daniel Pearl murderers by a day ANI | Updated: Feb 01, 2021 14:53 IST Islamabad [Pakistan], February 1 (ANI): Pakistan s Supreme Court (SC) on Monday extended the interim detention order of the accused involved in the murder case of American Journalist Daniel Pearl by one day, reported The Express Tribune. The three-judge bench of SC led by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the government s petition wherein a notice to the attorney general of Pakistan was also issued and records of the case were sought from the Sindh High Court (SHC). On January 28, the 3-member bench had acquitted all the accused involved in the murder case of the American journalist, ordering the release of the four men languishing in jails for the past 18 years.

The three-judge bench led by Justice Umar Ata Bandial will take up the Sindh government s plea seeking a stay on the Sindh High Court (SHC) December 24 decision regarding the release of all accused persons. Sindh government and Daniel Pearl s parents have moved the SC against the Sindh High Court (SHC) on April 2, 2020 order to release the four men accused of abducting and killing the Wall Street Journal s former South Asia bureau chief in 2002, reported The Express Tribune.
