Earl Seibert died July 27, 1942, at the Cabanatuan POW Camp 1, where more than 2,500 POWs died during the war. On Saturday, May 25, 2024, Seibert finally will be laid to rest in his hometown, with full military honors.
Vallejo Soldier Marcus A. Engesser Accounted for from WWII The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced May 14 that U.S. Army Pvt. 1st Class Marcus A. Engesser, 21, of Vallejo, who was captured and died as a prisoner of war during World War II, was accounted for Sept. 27, 2023. In late 1942, Engesser was a member of Company L, 31st Infantry Regiment in the Philippines during World War II, when Japanese forces invaded the Philippine Islands in December.
