Biden of course does this yet has so egregiously betrayed its base especially labor that they threw them into the republican camp and just as that animists was expressed towards Hillary Clinton i think to a certain extent it will be expressed towards joe biden because biden was very much an architect of nafta and then of course the 1994 omnibus crime bill militarized police on and on and on all the free trade deals you know biden had his hands in all of this so yes i think that this trail on the part of the Democratic Party towards their traditional base is going to be as much a part of this election as it was in 2016 in fact some of the exit polling that were seeing tonight although not conclusive seems to show that the people in large measure who are voting for joe biden are not so much voting for george much as theyre voting against donald trump whereas the people who are voting for donald trump are actually voting for donald trump what do you make of that. Yeah i mean in america yo

Others to be typical americans, somehow, but they are not a majority of the population. They need more in order to win. The Democratic Party has always been a coalition of out groups, people who are supposed sometimes not to be typical americans but who together when they hold together can be a majority. Of course they dont always hold together, and we get fights within the Democratic Party. And that dynamic has continued even as the composition of the republicans core constituency and of the groups in the Democratic Coalition have chang changed. These were very old Political Parties, Democratic Party formed in 1832 to reelect Andrew Jackson. They succeeded in doing hah. The Republican Party formed in 1854 to oppose the kansas nebraska act of slavery and the territories, they succeeded on that, within a decade or so. But they have continued ever since. And you beginning in your introduction basically going back to election day 2016, you write, quote, panic is a poor guy to reality. The

Host let me begin on chapter two of your book because you say quote, let me start by describing what i believed to be the enduring character, the political dna of our two Major Political parties. What is there dna . Guest they change their positions on issues over the years. These are very old parties. The republicans started off as the protectionist party and became the freetrade party around the 1970s. With President Trump they are now the trade party. The enduring character is that the Republican Party has always been founded around a core constituency of people who are considered by themselves and others to be typical americans, but they are not a majority of the population. The Democratic Party has always been a coalition of people who were supposed some time to be typical americans but who together can be a majority. They dont always hold together and we get schisms and fights within the Democratic Party.
