the reality is, under george w. bush, this would increase the debt limit seven times, under ronald reagan, 18 times. 70 times since the 1960s, and 130 members who are republicans in congress to date voted to raise that debt ceiling under george w. bush. is there any real reason to believe here, ed, that one of the reasons congress will not vote to put the economy in the black because the economy is in the hands of the black. that seems extraordinarily harsh. but the reality is, there seems to be no logical or reasonable answer or response to the notion other than they want to deny this democrat and this particular president the victory of having the ability to forth consensus here around the reality of american debt. are you suggesting that there s no way the president can get any kind of a victory out of this working with republicans for the good of the country? they just won t give it to him? they just will not.
