Filipino online karate sensation James de los Santos claimed two gold medals this weekend which increased his total medal haul to six less than a month after he started his campaign this year.
De los Santos won his fifth gold medal after beating American Alfredo Bustamante 24.9-24.6 in the Budva Winner #1 final e-kata individual male senior’s category as results were posted Saturday by Sportsdata – an online page recognized by the World Karate Federation (WKF).
The following day, the 30-year-old ruled the Athletes’ E-Tournament Series #1 following another win against Bustamante in the final round 25.5-24.34 that gave him his sixth gold medal.
MANILA – Filipino karateka James de los Santos captured his fourth e-kata gold for the year in record setting fashion after winning the Katana Intercontinental League #1.
De los Santos set a new personal best by beating world No. 2 Matias Domont of Switzerland, 26.64-25.06, in the final.
“This is the highest I’ve ever scored in a virtual tournament,” de los Santos said in an interview with CNN Philippines on Monday, where he first announced the result.
De los Santos’ previous e-kata personal best was a 26.1 last year right in the same tournament.
He first topped a three-man semifinal with a 24.72 against the 23.4 from American Alfredo Bustamante and a 22.16 from England’s David Brierly.

Filipino karateka champion James De Los Santos has ended his 2020 tourneys with a strong finish on Christmas Day, winning three more games to give him a total of 36 gold medals and 6 Grand Winner Titles.
