Im here at pearl harbor. Welcome to war soirz. It was right here at 7 55 on sunday december 7th, 1941 that the empire of japan launched the savage surprise attack on u. S. Forces in the pacific. When it was over 2,403 americans were dead, 21 warships were sunk or damaged, and six air fields had been bombed. But what many do not know is that it wasnt just an air raid. The Japanese Imperial navy also planned to attack the u. S. Pacific fleet with a secret weapon five midget submarines. Fortunately, their attack was foiled. In part by the Alert Response of uss ward, an old destroyer manned by a reserve navy crew. For more than 60 years members of the ward maintained that they had sunk one of the japanese midget subs shortly before the air attack began. Yet no evidence could ever be found to prove their claim.
